Clemon L. Chappell Jr.

Our Pastor, was born in Selma, Alabama in 1965. His family moved to Chicago, Illinois in 1966. When he was 7 1/2 yrs old, Clemon received Jesus Christ as his Savior at the Livelystone Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of Pastor William Jenkins Sr. But like the prodigal son, he strayed away from the Father's house. In 1989, at the Galilean Baptist Church in Norcross, Georgia he was welcomed back home. Under the leadership of Dr. Tolbert Moore, he became involved in the bus ministry, choir and visitation program. On September 1, 1991 he surrendered to the Lord to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ. In 1994 Clemon surrendered to full time service for the Master. In 1995, on September 1st, he and his family set out to serve the Lord in the Chicago area. There he started the Lighthouse Baptist Mission and after 1 year of meeting at the SONRISE Church under the leadership of Dr. Edwin Moore, the Lighthouse merged with the SONRISE Church in October of 1996. On the 1st Sunday of August in 1997, he began to serve as the 2nd pastor of the SONRISE Church after Dr. Edwin Moore, the founder, began his new ministry as a missionary to the land of Wales.

A Ray of Hope

The SONRISE church is an Independent Baptist Church Founded in the Black Oak community, of Gary, Indiana, just east of Chicago, Il. We have now relocated 10 minutes down the road to a larger facility. Our church is easily accessible from anywhere in the greater Chicago area.

At The SONRISE Church, we believe that God's Word provides the only solid foundation on which to build our lives. We believe that God has a purpose for every life. That is why we make no apology for teaching and preaching the Bible.

SONRISE is a diverse church, Whose members are from all ethnic and social backgrounds, We believe the Lord is always present where he is being worshiped.

Many of the families here at SONRISE have discovered the joy of being a part of a friendly, Bible-believing church that works hard to meet the needs of our people.

Our prayer is for you to know Christ and be involved in a church home that cares for you.

From the SONRISE Choir to the Ambassador's for Christ' ministry, we extend an invitation for you to come visit The SONRISE Church.
